Meet Shelly

Shelly Abraham is a candidate for Georgia State House District 99. He was born in Staten Island, New York to immigrant parents who came from India to pursue the American Dream. From an early age, Shelly attended church and learned the value of empathy for others, developing his talents and service to a greater purpose. He was also fortunate to be surrounded by extended family who helped take care of him and his two siblings. His grandfather, John, was one of his first mentors who taught him important life lessons and how to be a well-rounded man.

After the 5th grade, Shelly moved to Snellville, GA for the opportunities that Gwinnett County offers. He was gifted in math, science and art and took classes that challenged him and had wonderful teachers. He graduated Brookwood High School with honors and studied Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech. He later switched his major to Mechanical Engineering and transferred to Kennesaw State University. He completed his degree and started working in the architectural and engineering industry. His mentors in the industry encouraged him to stay humble, learn more and focus on solutions. Shelly plans to be a problem solver for the people of Georgia.

After working in the real world and seeing the challenges of everyday working people, Shelly understands that the promise of the American dream is under attack. The price of a college education has far outpaced inflation and housing has become unaffordable to a wide range of Georgians such as young families and seniors. He not only understands the challenges of those who have trouble saving and those living paycheck to paycheck, he's lived it. Inflation has put financial strain on many families and the people need relief. Rather than feeling depressed about these very real issues, Shelly has decided to become part of the solution. He understands that it doesn't have to be this way. We can do better.
